Progress Energy provides electricity to 3.2 million customers. The Duke Energy subsidiary serves customers in North and South Carolina through utility Carolina Power & Light (dba Duke Energy Progress), and in Florida through Florida Power (or Duke Energy Florida). The company generates most of its energy from nuclear and fossil-fueled plants and has a total capacity of about 23,000 MW. Progress Energy is seeking to improve its operational efficiency while expanding its alternative energy power sources in order to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
